Ekweremadu’s empire has expired – APC Reps aspirant, Darlington Agwu

A House of Representatives aspirant for the Enugu North and South Constituency, Mr. Agwu Darlington has boasted that the Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu will not return to the Senate in 2019.

Agwu, who is vying for the Reps position under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, said every empire had an expiry date.

He spoke to journalists in his Ugwuaji ward shortly after he made his intention to contest for the Reps seat.

His stand on Ekweremadu is coming amidst controversy generated by a statement credited to Ekweremadu at a public dialogue organised by the #NotTooYoungToRun movement, where he was quoted as saying that he could remain in the Senate forever if he so wished, owing to his good relationship with his constituents. The Senator later came up with further clarification, explaining that he was quoted out of context.

However, Agwu said “I believe that every empire has an expiry date and I believe that this is his (Ekweremadu’s expiry date; he will crumble this time around; he needs to come back so that another person will go and test it; if he is suffering over there, another person should go and suffer.”

On his ambition, he berated the member representing the constituency, Hon. Chime Oji accusing him of lacking in capacity and not being close to the people.

“I decided to start from my ward because they said charity begins at home; let me declare to my people, get their views. If they ask me to go, I will go, if they ask me step down, they will tell me the reason and I will listen to them.

“A lot of things motivated me to start running for this position; you came from Enugu to this place, what was your experience in our road? Have you seen it in any other place around Enugu State? That is the major thing that motivated me; our people are lacking good representation, that is why I am coming on board, they need someone close to them.

“I have done a lot in this part of the State before now; I was a councillor, I have been a supervisor, I have been as Executive Assistant to the Governor and I made impact with those positions on the life of our people.”

Asked whether he had the financial muscle, Agwu said, “Those people you think they have money, they don’t have anything. I have the financial muscle, I have the capacity to match them at any level. I mean at any level, force to force, money to money, any how they want it, I will match them and they know.”

On the indirect primary at the State level, he said “it is a hierarchy decision; whatever the party leadership decides, we go by that.”
