Ekweremadu exposes alleged plans by EFCC to implicate him

Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, shocked many, when on Wednesday, he alleged a plot by Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), to plant huge sum of money and other items in his guest house in Enugu.

Ekweremadu told his colleagues that, he had it on good authority in a letter from an unnamed “good Samaritan”, that the EFCC was planing to plant the money in different international currencies on his property in Enugu and then subsequently effect a raid.

Ekweremadu said, in the planned raid, operatives of EFCC would recover other incriminating items, arms and ammunition of various shades and firepower.

He said from information available to him, EFCC also planned to plant his portrait in the guest house to complete its ploy to rope him in.

He said once the plot is hatched; EFCC would arrest and detain him and that while in detention, a period which could take about 3 weeks, there would be series of protests asking that he should be recalled.

According to the tip-off note, a copy of which was obtained; a cabal in the Presidency is behind the plot to indict Ekweremadu and weaken his political base and make it impossible for him to seek political office in the country.

“The cabals in the Presidency’s target is to indict you and kill your political ambition so that you can no longer stand for any future elections and to show to the international community and Nigeria people that you senator Ike Ekweremadu is a corrupt politician,” the document reads.

Ekweremadu has been Deputy Senate President since 2007.
