The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has asked the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), to painstakingly review the June 21, 2014 governorship election, which brought Ayodele Fayose of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, into office.
The party, whose candidate, Kayode Fayemi lost the controversial election to the eventual winner, Fayose, described the outcome as a complete fraud, thus calling for immediate prosecution of those accused of manipulating the poll.
This call is coming on the heels of the recent shocking confession of former secretary of the PDP in Ekiti State, Tope Aluko on a national television that the election was manipulated in favour of the current governor, Fayose.
APC labeled the alleged poll fraud as “extraordinary shame of the nation and unprecedented in Nigeria’s electoral history.”
The party in a petition endorsed by its Chairman in the state, Olajide Awe, said the alleged fraud was a “criminal manipulation of the electoral process” adding that the personalities indicted must be punished according to the law.
Awe in the petition, maintained that the review of the matter had become very crucial in national interest and to thwart a cycle of politicians that could seize the reins of government through sedition.
The party chieftain noted that the petition was the third to be forwarded to the office of the AGF.
