Traders at the Erekesan Market in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, have pledged their continued support for Governor Kayode Fayemi and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
They made the pledge during an unscheduled visit to the market complex and its adjoining land by the Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, on Tuesday.
The traders said the policies executed so far by Fayemi since coming to power have made life easier for them and boost sales most especially
the prompt payment of workers’ salaries which has positively affected their businesses.
They, however, rejected the uncompleted market complex built by the administration of former Governor Ayo Fayose, which they described as
“expensive and having very dark interior.”
The traders urged the government to build smaller and affordable shops for them as many of them are petty traders who can’t afford spaces in the uncompleted market complex.
Impressed with the policies and programmes of the Fayemi administration, they promised to continue to vote APC in the future elections describing the governor as the “real friend of the masses.”
The chanted “APC…Next Level” and sang in Yoruba “Gomina daadaa ni Fayemi, o n se wa daadaa, o huwa daa daa si wa” meaning “Fayemi is a good governor, who treats us well and behaves well to us.”
One of them, Mrs. Anike Olowoyeye, said: “We love Fayemi government
and we have seen changes in our businesses. We want government to build small and affordable shops for us.
“But we don’t want this market complex built by the last government,
the interior is too dark to conduct business and we pepper sellers, okro sellers, tomato sellers can’t afford shops there
Responding, Egbeyemi promised to convey their message to his boss describing Fayemi as a “compassionate man and a listening governor.”
Egbeyemi was joined on the inspection tour by the Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Febisola Adewale and Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Ademiloye Fasiku.
The Deputy Governor said the people of Ekiti State have been witnessing good governance since Fayemi came on board urging them to continue their support for the governor to take Ekiti to greater heights.
Egbeyemi said: “Our government is here to help everyone of you. You will notice that ever since we assume duty, we have been paying salaries promptly.
“Once salaries are paid, you will enjoy good patronage from public servants; there is none that now buys goods on credit.
“It is this same money that was in the coffers of the state that a government was owing eight month salary arrears and it claimed to be friend of the masses but now, you know who the true friend of the masses is.
“We want you to continue to support this government, even before the coming elections, you would have seen various projects that will convince you to support us the more.”
