Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Right Honourable (Pastor) Kola Oluwawole, has hailed the Court of Appeal for making justice prevail in the case involving Honourable Musa Arogundade and Toyin Obayemi who are laying claims to the seat of Ado Constituency 1 in the Assembly.
A statement by his Special Assistant (Media), Stephen Gbadamosi, Oluwawole also praised the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for selecting Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State to succeed Dr Olusegun Mimiko as chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.
The Court of Appealed had ruled on Thursday that Honourable Arogundade remained the duly elected PDP lawmaker for the constituency pending the determination of the substantive suit Before it, restraining Obayemi from laying claim to the seat.
“This is good for the growth of our democracy. I have said for the umpteenth time that the hullaballoo being created over the matter is unnecessary. No lawmaker can be replaced in such way as being canvassed when a case is pending before competent courts of law. We are lawmakers; we cannot be law breakers. The full course of justice must be allowed to run through,” he said.
Commenting on the emergence of Dr Fayose as the new chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Thursday, Oluwawole noted that it was a step in the right direction, adding that his (Fayose’s) choice was a development that would strengthen the party ahead of the 2019 general elections.
“The PDP couldn’t have made a better choice. Fayose is not only the voice of opposition, but also a strong pillar of support for the PDP. He is also a tested politician and the most senior governor around. Fayose is a team player and he understands the nitty-gritty of party politics.
“Look at his numerous achievements both in his first coming and now. I have no doubt that he will not only consolidate on the strides of his predecessor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, but also surpass them. With his emergence, I am sure that the All Progressives Congress (APC) must be catching cold now.
“I commend the leadership of our great party, the PDP, for being very insightful in putting Dr Fayose in that sensitive position. It shows that they are truly desirous of putting a final end to the crisis within the party,” Oluwawole said.
