The protracted face-off between the All Progressives Congress, APC, lawmakers in the Ekiti State House of Assembly led by the embattled Speaker, Dr. Adewale Omirin and Governor Ayo Fayose, has attracted the intervention of the state’s Council of Traditional Rulers who have asked both parties to sheathe their sword in the overall interest of peace in the state.
The Monarchs expressed concerns over the bad blood between the two arms of government, regretting that the crisis which was purely domestic had been taken outside the shores of the state.
Since their ordeal began shortly after the swearing-in of Governor Fayose over a month ago, the APC lawmakers had relocated to Lagos State from where they operate.
According to the traditional rulers, both the governor and the legislators were representatives of the people and therefore should not do anything inimical to the interest of the state.
The chairman of the Council and the Onitaji of Itaji, Oba Adamo Babalola, who read the communiqué issued at the end of its statutory meeting on Tuesday said, “As major stakeholders and leaders of our people, the Council has decided to intervene by calling the two parties to order in the overall interest of Ekiti State.
“Having painstakingly considered the issues involved, council therefore resolved to invite the two parties to a roundtable discussion geared towards restoring peace, concord and a harmonious working relationship between the two arms of government,” the communiqué read.
