Ekiti lawmaker attacks Fayose over comments on Buhari’s health

A member of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Gboyega Aribisogan, has lampooned Governor Ayofele Fayose, for making “disparaging comments”

on the health status of President Muhammadu Buhari. Hide quoted text Aribisogan advised Fayose to address the hardship being faced by the people of Ekiti State and stop mocking Buhari and making comments he is not morally and professionally authorized to make.

The lawmaker representing Ikole Constituency 1 in the Assembly said Fayose has made himself a laughing stock out of the 36 governors of the federation by his action urging him to desist from making inflammatory statements out of political brinkmanship.

Aribisogan, who was suspended by fellow lawmakers for 180 legislative days in October last year but stormed the Assembly three weeks ago to resume office, defected from the ruling Peoples Democratic party (PDP) to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) with about 200 followers on Tuesday.

Fayose at a news conference he addressed on Wednesday at the Government House in Ado-Ekiti alleged that Buhari has been placed on a life support machine since June 6 in a London hospital where he has been receiving treatment calling on the President to resign from office.

Reacting to Fayose’s comments on Buhari’s health in a statement on Saturday, Aribisogan said “irresponsible utterances and actions” have eroded the governor’s credibility in the eyes of responsible Nigerians who have been praying for the President’s recovery.

He described Fayose as “a disaster in governance” whose personal attacks on the President has not portrayed him as a true Yoruba son who cherishes the tradition and respect for age and position.

Aribisogan said: “I will like to describe his (Fayose’s) outburst as rantings of a governor who has failed to address the numerous challenges facing his people. Ekiti people are suffering, workers have not been paid for several months, people are hungry.

“Those who have laboured in their active years are now being punished by not being paid their pension and children are being sent home because parents can no longer pay their school fees, many are dying daily because the governor has no plan for the health of his people.

“The governor, rather than pay attention to these challenges , has made the abuse of President Buhari a major policy of his administration. Nigerians are already aware of the health status of President Buhari and there is no vacuum in the Presidency to warrant the unnecessary outburst of the governor who has been deceiving Nigerians that all is well with Ekiti people.”

Aribisogan added: “Out of the 36 governors in Nigeria, Mr. Fayose is the only one who has been abusing President Buhari without restraint and he has continued to portray Ekiti people as the enemy of the Federal Government through his action and utterances.

“I want to warn Mr. Fayose to stop pitching Ekiti against the Federal Government by portraying them as people who lack respect for constituted authorities and people who do not like the President of the country.

“What is the business of a governor who is not one of the medical personnel attached to the President to be talking about the President being on a life support machine. The country should ask him to provide a proof of his information.

“Governor Ayo Fayose has become a disaster in governance as he has impoverished the people through his draconian policies. I urge him to find solutions to the numerous socio-economic crises in Ekiti State and stop mocking President Buhari over his health.

“Let him look inward and find solutions to the myriads of problems bedeviling the state and stop this political brinkmanship that has made him a laughing stock in the country.”
