Kayode Fayemi, the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate in the Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State has warned suspected uniformed militants and hoodlums camping around the state to leave before the election.
Fayemi warned of severe consequences if they fail to vacate the state before Saturday’s election.
Speaking during an interview programme on Voice 89.9FM in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, the APC candidate said the suspects were allegedly camped in secret locations in the state to foment trouble during Saturday’s election.
He claimed that intelligence report at his disposal showed that the militants and hoodlums were sewing uniforms of officers of the Department of State Services, DSS, the army and police to intimidate voters and instigate unrest during the polls.
The former Minister of Mines and Development assured people of the state of adequate and maximum security during the elections.
He said, “I want to assure prospective voters that Ekiti will be safe; it will be secured; there will be maximum security for this election.
“Our people should go about their businesses in peace and they should not be threatened. They should not feel harassed by all we are hearing from those who don’t want free and fair electoral process.
“We are aware (of this) and every information that we get, we pass to security agencies. I will like to advise those busybodies who have found their way into Ekiti to leave our state. In your interest, leave unannounced before the election because you will face very severe punishment.”
