Ekiti: Fayemi pays N3.3bn outstanding counterpart funds for UBEC/SUBEB projects

The Ekiti State Government has paid the N3.3 billion outstanding counterpart funds for the year 2016, 2017 and 2018 Universal Basic Education Commission/ State Universal Basic Education Board, UBEC/SUBEB, projects.

This was disclosed in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital during the opening ceremony of the 2014/2015 UBEC/ SUBEB Projects by the Permanent Secretary of SUBEB in the state, Dr Eunice Oladimeji.

The state government claimed that the funding was initially neglected by the immediate past administration of Ayodele Fayose while in office.

But speaking at the event, Oladimeji urged successfully shortlisted contractors to work to specification because the board would enforce strict compliance to the rules guiding the procedures for the execution of UBEC/SUBEB projects.

She warned that any contractor who failed to work to specification will be blacklisted and made to refund government funds in their possession.

The Permanent Secretary disclosed that the board had purchased 17 motorcycles for technical officers that would monitor the projects located across the nooks and crannies of the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.

Oladimeji also assured that the Board had concluded plans to pay contractors the outstanding balance owed them on the 2012 /2013 UBEC /SUBEB projects.

Also speaking, the Zonal Coordinator of the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, in the state, Joshua Arema commended the Governor Kayode Fayemi’s administration for complying with UBEC policies and programmes.

He assured that UBEC would continue to collaborate with the Ekiti SUBEB in improving service delivery and making basic education accessible to children of school age in the state.
