Ekiti crisis: Peace comes at last as Fayose, Omirin meet in Akure

What seems to be the end of the political war between the Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayo Fayose and the embattled Speaker of the State, Rt. Hon. Adewale Omirin came on Monday as they held a closed door meeting at Sun View Hotel, Alagbaka in Akure, the Ondo State Capital.

In the meeting which lasted for several hours, Fayose came with other executive members of his cabinet, while Omirin was accompanied by four other All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers.

However, Governor Fayose and Hon Omirin refused to answer questions from anxious reporters at the end of the meeting, insisting that “we are not going to answer question, but only make statement.”

The Governor asked whether Omirin was willing to answer questions from Journalists, but the speaker also replied that “no sir, we will just make statement.”

Fayose in his remarks to Journalists at the end of the meeting said “we have met in the interest of our dear State, Ekiti, which is bigger than the interest of any individual or party. We are here for peace to reign in our state.”

He added that “we are here to find solution to the problem in Ekiti State. The meeting was between the executive and the legislature and we had deliberated on nothing but the interest of Ekiti State.”

When Omisrin was asked to make his own statement he said “the Governor has spoken and he has spoken very well.”

The meeting, which was said to be a continuation of the peace move in the state, however, showed that the APC lawmakers might have bowed to the Governor.

With the present development, the impeachment move against Governor Fayose has been defeated.

Also at the meeting were the Deputy Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon Orisalade, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Dipo Anisulowo and some other members of the State Executive Council.

The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti state, Mr John James and the state Director of Department of State Services (DSS) also attended the meeting.
