With the crisis created by the endorsement of the Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Prof Kolapo Olusola as the sole candidate of the Peoples
Democratic Party for the 2018 governorship poll, former Minister of Works, Prince Adeyeye, has said the imposition was part of the plot to sell the party to the opposition. Adeyeye, described the ‘imposition’ as a nullity, having infracted the party’s constitution and the electoral act 2010, as amended.
The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP specifically accused Governor Ayodele Fayose of working in cahoot with external
forces to ruin the PDP. He assured the party that the endorsement of Olusola by Fayose and a section of the party won’t stand, saying the National Working Committee of the party, led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi would conduct a free, fair poll to elect a credible candidate.
Adeyeye was reacting to the last Tuesday endorsement of Olusola by pro-Fayose PDP members, led by the State Chairman of the party, Barrister Gboyega Oguntuase.
Speaking during a meeting with some members of the party at the headquarters of Prince Adedayo Adeyeye Movement (PAAM) in Ado Ekiti, Adeyeye said the shenanigans allegedly contrived by Fayose to armtwist the party into accepting Olusola won’t stand.
Present at the meeting were former Commissioner for Public Utilities under Fayose, Mr Deji Adesua and a recently sacked commissioner in the State Universal Basic Education Board, Hon Dele Olugbemi.
“Governor Fayose said he was directed by God to anoint his deputy, but the bible says woe betide a man who is saying when he had not been directed by God. I want to see that someone is trying to place a curse on himself here.
“What the governor did was a flagrant breach of the constitution and the Electoral Act and it can’t stand. Fayose is a governor and whoever occupies such a bid position must learn how to protect the law. He should not take any action that will make him irresponsible.
“PDP in Ekiti is in a delicate position. We have no federal might behind us. We are not in control of the Army, police and others . Again, we are no longer enjoying the popularity with which we came into office in 2014. If you do opinion poll today, that does not favour us because of the actions and inactions of this government.
“However, we have it on good authority hat someone is trying sell the party to the opposition and this we are going to resist. In 2014, I would have won the 70% of the primary if not for the abracadabra they did .
“So, I have called my supporters and reassured them that primary will be conducted and I will emerge because I have the people behind me”, he boasted.
On the allegation raised by Fayose that he made him a Minister, Adeyeye retoted that “Let me say this, it was on the account of what happened after the 2014 primary that made former President Goodluck Jonathan appeased me with a ministerial position. So, Jonathan made me Minister not Fayose”.
Urging the aggrieved aspirants not to resort to legal actions, Adeyeye said ”let them use the reconciliatory mechanism in the party to resolve issue. The same Fayose went to Labour Party for 2011 elections and returned to PDP empty handed. He even lost a senate election.
“So, Governor Fayose will be deceiving himself if he thought he could win election in Ekiti alone without our support”.
