An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and member of the seventh House of Representatives, Hon Bamidele Faparusi, has warned that the party may end up regretting if it refuses to hearken to the agitations for the zoning of the governorship ticket to the south senatorial district.
Faparusi said what Ekiti people are craving for fairness, justice and fair-play among the three senatorial districts, describing those working against the agitation as “selfish politicians, who have no respect for the populace”.
The former federal lawmaker had also inaugurated his campaign team , with former Majority Leader of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Churchill Adedipe appointed as his Campaign Director among other senatorial and wards’ coordinators that were composed to work for his emergence at the primary.
Speaking while unveiling his governorship aspiration at the party’s office in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, Faparusi said zoning has become a serious issue the party can’t discountenance, except it was not desirous of winning the election.
He said as a politician and technocrat , he would rebuild the state’s economy via robust commercial agriculture, tourism , youth employment through vocational training, institutionalization of social security for aged, sick and unemployed and free education to the secondary cadre.
The APC leader appealed to delegates to rebuff those he described as ‘money bags’ from mortgaging their future at the primary.
“Many of them have borrowed monies from neighbouring states, from friends in London and USA and when they win election, hardly could they do anything because they have borrowed more than the economy of the state could cope with, we had experienced this before”, he counseled.
On the zoning palaver, Faparusi said: “The entire six local governments in the south have taken a position on this and that was why Governor Ayodele Fayose , who wanted to pick an Ado Ekiti person initially quickly opted for his Deputy, Prof Kolapo Olusola , who is from Ikere in the south, so APC must do same.
“Governor Fayose was not a fool to have done that. He has done his opinion poll very well. So , I beg the APC State and National Working Committees that if they really love APC, they must support south agenda.
“Our leaders must make sacrifices the way Asiwaju Bola Tinubu did in 2015. President Muhammadu Buhari had conceded the Vice Presidential ticket to him, but for fear of Muslim-Muslim ticket, he decided to give way for VP Yemi Osinbajo and that was why APC won.
“I see no reason why it was difficult for some Ekiti APC leaders to make sacrifices if not for selfishness, greed and pride”, he added.
Faparusi added that posterity shall judge positively whoever makes sacrifice well for the party to be able to reclaim the state back from the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in the coming election.
He promised to be ‘servant ’ to the party members if given the opportunity to fly the party’s flag and eventually won the July 14 poll.
