A former Personal Assistant to ex-President, Olusegun Obasanjo, Bodunde Adeyanju has disclosed his intention to contest the 2014 governorship race in Ekiti State.
Adeyanju made the declaration when he visited his hometown recently.
The aspirant was accompanied on the trip by loyalists, including Ogundoro Steven from Emure, Chief Olufemi Olaleye from Ikole and the Director General of Bodunde Campaign Organisation, Segun Asubiojo from Ido Ile.
Speaking, he urged all members of the party in the state to join forces in ensuring that the Peoples Democratic Party emerges victorious in the 2014 gubernatorial elections.
He advised his ward chairman to bring back all the aggrieved members, stating that Ado Ekiti indigenes were ready to have one of their own as the governor of the state.
Adeyanju added that “I am here to declare my ambition, so please urge more people to join the PDP,” adding that his declaration in the state will soon follow, in line with the party’s way.
He said the PDP is the only party not owned by individual, adding that the All progressives Congress (APC) is not a threat to the PDP.
Adeyanju assured the people that his working with Obasanjo for over 20 years has given him a lot of experiences and advantage over others who has no idea about governance.
DailyPost learnt that his entry has caused stir within the camp of other aspirants, due to his closeness to Obasanjo.
Sources say the former president may use him to neutralize the influence of former state governor, Ayo Fayose.
An indigene of the state and a political observer, Tunde Adewo, in a chat said, “I find the entry of the Adeyanju quite interesting, because he has been a long-standing loyalist of Baba OBJ.
“Now that Baba and Fayose are at loggerheads, Adeyanju may use that to win his way into Obasanjo’s heart to gain his support.
“Having said that, I strongly believe Adeyanju couldn’t have declared his intention without Baba’s knowledge,” he said
