The Ogun State Police Command on Sunday confirmed the arrest of eight secondary school students suspected to be cult members while performing an initiation rite.
The suspects were apprehended by police operatives attached to Sagamu Division with the help of members of the state Vigilante Service.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the suspects were nabbed on Friday, adding that the students were suspected to be members of Black Scorpion Cult Group.
Adejobi said the suspects were caught in the act of initiating one 16-year-old Ayoola Ahmed, who is a student of their school, Remo Divisional High School, Kara, Sagamu, in a nearby bush.
He identified the suspects as, Sodik Suleiman (16), Seyin Okebiyi (15), Olaide Sodik (15), Dare Sodiya (16), Ogunfuwa Samson (17), Adegba Michael (18), Usman Adams (17) and Isa Suleiman (18).
The state police command spokesperson further noted that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Abdulmajid Ali, had directed that the suspects be transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence, Eleweran, Abeokuta for further investigation.
