The President, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba has urged Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of sacrifice, love and discipline as they celebrate Eid-el-kabir.
The NLC President made the call in his Eid-el-Kabir message issued on Monday in Abuja.
According to him, Eid-el-Kabir symbolises sacrifice, discipline, faith, the spirit of give and take, love of God and love for our neighbours, obedience to and total submission to God, our creator.
He urged Nigerians not to lend themselves to be used by those who seek power at all costs, not for the benefit of all but for themselves.
Wabba said: “We use this opportunity to appeal to all Nigerians, not only Muslims, to imbibe the spirit of Eid-el-Kabir.
“This is the best time for Nigerians to imbibe these qualities to address political disputations, massive loss of lives due to conflicts across the country.
“Resurgence of mutual suspicions, sectarian/hate tendencies, violence and general threats to our oneness and sovereignty.
“This moment would avail Nigerians the opportunity to strengthen the bonds that hold the nation together and shared values that stand on high pedestal in the community of nations.
“We should rise with a common resolve to challenge those people and those things that polarise us. We have no country other than this; we can have no better freedom than in our country.
“Nigerians to unite to fight those things that keep us down, as Eid-el-Kabir offers an opportunity for serious reflection.”
