The Cross River State Police Commissioner (CP), Mohammed Inuwa Hafiz has said that the command deployed over 20-30 policemen in each Mosque in the state.
Disclosing this in a telephone interview on Sunday, Hafiz told DAILY POST, “As usual, we did our show of force in order to remind the general public that the security is very much in place”.
He said the command synergized with the Army and other security agencies in joint operations. “For the special operations carried out, not less than 100 policemen were used for the show of force around town.
“We made arrangement that on sallah day, DPOs and patrol team sent their men round the town, particularly at flash points and to all places of worship with a view to ensuring that the Muslim brothers who are celebrating the Sallah, did it in a very peaceful atmosphere.
“All these were done and we thank God that throughout the period, there was no ugly incident recorded.
“In Mosques, we deployed at least nothing less than 20-30 policemen to each Mosque, just to reassure the Muslim brothers that their security was guaranteed.
“We have not received any report of clash or crisis as regards to the Eid el Fitri celebration. In fact, let me categorically say that even the Christians faithful rejoiced with Muslim brothers in the state.
“We witnessed exchange of gifts, as Christians were seen sending text messages and gifts both cash and kind to their well-wishers and friends which is very good and this is what is expected in a circular country like Nigeria,” he stated.
