Sequel to the frightening quit notice handed down to the Igbo people by the Coalition of Northern Youths, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress , Hon Bamidele Faparusi, has advised Nigerians to collectively rebuke those agitating for the country’s disintegration.
Faparusi said the citizens have tremendous benefit to derive from staying together taking cognizance of the humongous human and material resources available to the country than for it to be balkanized, saying many of the countries that were products of secession are presently working for reintegration.
The governorship aspirant saluted Nigerian Muslims for their unflagging belief in the country’s unity, saying their supplications and prayers for Nigeria during Ramadan fast, had helped in resolving many of the problems that would have precipitated in crisis and derail President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.
The APC Chieftain said this in an Eid-el-Fitri message to Muslims in Ado Ekiti , on Friday in commemoration of the end of Ramadan.
He said those canvassing for the Nigeria’s disintegration must look beyond politics and ethnic consideration and think broadly of the corporate benefits populace are deriving from the present status, in terms of global recognition, diplomatic relations and natural endowments, both human and materials.
Faparusi advised Muslims to continue to co-exist peacefully with their Christian brothers and refrain from acts that could jeopardize the country’s efforts to tame ethnosectarian and religious upheavals threatening the nation’s peace and unity..
He said Ramadan signposted holiness and Godliness , urging them to continually live a holy life as typified by Prophet Mohammed (SAW) for it is through this they can overcome the temptations of corruption, adultery , and other social vices that can cause restiveness in the society.
“We must continue to stay together, because in unity our strength lies. Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba are brothers through Allah’s divine arrangement. We must stop the agitators of Nigeria’s break up for we have nothing to gain when we are separated from one another as brothers.
“During Ramadan, all our brothers across the three major tribes fasted without bias and it is on this strength we should continue to stand together until Nigeria assume greatness”.
Faparusi added that the essence of Ramadan is to teach the culture of “resilience, sacrifice, love , brotherhood, meekness and other virtues that can transform a society, pleading that such should be allowed to manifest in our daily lives having been demonstrated during the holy month .
The APC chieftain appealed to religious leaders to intensify quests to free Nigeria from all forms of religious tension by preaching against bigotry and educate their adherents on the need to understand that Nigeria is a secular state.
