As Muslims all over the world celebrate the end of holy month of Ramadan, Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State has charged Muslims in Nigeria to pray for the redemption of the country from array of socioeconomic and political complications.
He gave the charge in a statement made available to journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, enjoining them to sustain the tempo of moral discipline they have attained during Ramadan.
According to the governor, Nigeria is in dire need of a new order, through total reorientation of the people, for the purpose of changing the present pattern of life of many citizens, and build an egalitarian society.
Aregbesola added that the recent ethnic tension and attendant hate speeches remain a big threat to Nigeria’s corporate existence, noting that only prayers of the faithful could douse the tension and redeem the country completely.
“The one month of Ramadan came to its end today and we are grateful to God for this. We wish to admonish our people on the need to sustain that higher moral altitude they attained while fasting lasted. The point is that this is needed for Nigeria to navigate the current turbulent waters and achieve stability.
“It is our belief that the current tension associated with unending hate speeches and threats in our country can be resolved through prayers. We therefore need that prayer to keep Nigeria a united prosperous entity and we can only do this if we rededicate ourselves to God,” the statement reads.
