As part of efforts to promote peaceful co-existence between Muslims and Christians in Kaduna State, the General Overseer of Christ Evangelical Intercessory Fellowship Ministry, Kaduna, Pastor Yohanna Buru, hosted hundreds of Muslim Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, less privileged and inmates to a special Eid-El-Fitr lunch.
Buru, who led a team of Christian and some Muslim youths to the distribution of food and drinks items to IDPs and inmates, said, “We have come to rejoice with our brothers and sisters with food to eat, today is Sallah and we want them to join other Muslim faithful to celebrate the end of the Ramadan fasting and prayers. It is our joy to assist the needy at any time most especially our Muslim brothers and sisters during a period like this.”
He continued, “The Bible teaches us to love our neighbours as we love our serves. Whatever we do as Christian clerics should be in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Bible.
“This is our 5th year of embarking on this journey of Food and drink distribution during Sallah period to the less privileged, widows and inmates and donating new cloths to the orphans, among others in the society.
“Above all, the essence of what we are doing is to practically demonstrate the love Jesus Christ left for us as His followers to do irrespective of tribe, religion or section.”
While visiting some of the displaced persons at Badarawa, Unguwar Dosa, Barakallu and Rigasa in Kaduna town and environs, Buru stressed the need for Nigerians irrespective of any difference to be their brother’s keepers as a practical demonstration of what the two religions teach their followers.
Mamam Aisha Gamborin Gala from Borno state, who is one of the refugees with seven children, thanked the Church members for the gesture, saying it was a true demonstration of love. He enjoined other Nigerians to do same for the unity and peace of the country.
