EFL Cup: Southampton dump Liverpool out, qualify for final

Southampton have qualified for the final of the EFL Cup, after they defeated Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield, in the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final clash on Wednesday.

Shane Long scored a dramatic late winner for the Saints, as they claimed a 2-0 aggregate win over Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Southampton came into the return leg with a 1-0 advantage, thanks to a Nathan Redmond winner at St Mary’s Stadium.

Klopp named his strongest possible line-up, as he tried to claw back a result. But the Reds were wasteful on the night, failing to convert the many chances they created, with Daniel Sturridge the worst culprit.

Southampton will now take on the winner of the Hull City vs Manchester United tie in the final of the competition.
