The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has been instructed to ensure Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti State does not escape from the country.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) stated this in a letter signed by Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the EFCC.

The anti-graft agency in the letter addressed to the Comptroller-General of customs urged them to place Fayose on its watchlist and arrest him if he tries to leave Nigeria.

Fayose who enjoys immunity from prosecution as a governor ends his tenure as governor of the state on October 16.

He is being probed for alleged abuse of office, money laundering, and conspiracy, among others.

The letter read in part: “There is a reasonable suspicion suggesting that he may likely leave the country either through the land borders, airports or seaports in order to evade investigation.

“Hence, you are kindly requested to watch-list him and arrest him.”

In response, the customs in a letter dated September 14th instructed all zonal coordinators, area commanders and comptrollers to monitor Fayose.

“Consequently, you are requested to monitor the subject and report to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission through the provided contact details if sighted,” the customs wrote in a letter dated September 14.
