The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned before a Federal High Court, Abuja nine civil servants charged with involvement in Payroll fraud.

This was disclosed on Thursday by the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, via her Twitter handle.

She tweeted: “EFCC arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja 9 civil servants charged with involvement in Payroll fraud.

“This is the first time in Nigeria’s history that ghost worker fraudsters are being prosecuted.”

Speaking further on illegal recruitment in Ministries, Adeosun said: “we can sack people who steal. We can get rid of people who blow up their wage bill.

“What we are doing is that we are looking very closely, using technology, at payrolls. For instance, we are looking what was paid in 2015 and what was paid in 2016.

“We are asking why suddenly are payrolls bloated?

“So we use our spreadsheets to identify all the anomalies.”
