Former Imo State governor, Ihedi Ohakim, has been arrested by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Ohakim, who was arrested on Thursday, was expected to visit the EFCC office in Abuja on Wednesday, but refused to keep the appointment with the anti-graft agency.

He was however picked up by the EFCC to clarify and answer questions on ongoing investigations into allegations of corruption and embezzlement by his government.

Confirming the arrest, the EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said the former governor was in their custody.

Ohakim was governor of Imo State between 2007 and 2011. He was denied reelection in 2011 when the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, his party, denied him the ticket.
