EFCC arraigns ‘Yahoo boys’ syndicate over alleged N4.8million fraud in Delta

The Benin zonal office of the Economic Finacial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) on Friday at the Warri High Court in Delta State, arraigned suspected Yahoo syndicate, Tayo Morawo, for an offence bordering on obtaining by false pretence the sum of N4,811,000.

Morawo and his accomplice, identified as Kamuliu, now at large, were said to have fraudulently obtained the sum of N4,811,000 from one Ebuwa Emmanuel Ikemefure, a businessman.

Part of the charge sheet reads: “That you Tayo Morawo, Kamuliu now at large, between 2016 and 2017 in Warri, Delta state within the Jurisdiction of this hour able court did conspired with one another to commit an offence to wit obtain the aggregate sum of N4,811,000 from one Ebuwa Emmanuel Ikemefure by false Pretence , and thereby committed an Offences contrary to Section 8( a) of the Advance Fee Fraud, and other Fraud related offences Act 2006 , and Punishable under Section 1( 3) of the same Act.”

The defendant, Tayo Morawo however pleaded not guilty to the charge, and the prosecuting counsel, Moses Arumemi asked the court to fix a date for trial, and to remand the defendant in Prison custody to enable him time to respond to the bail application filled by the accused’s counsel, Barr. Emmanuel Ajanana.

The presiding judge, Justice Emmanuel Nwite delivering Judgement, adjourned the case to March 18, 2019 for hearing, and ordered that the defendant be remanded in Okere Warri prison custody pending the determination of his bail.
