The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, yesterday arraigned former Adamawa State governor, Barrister Bala James Ngillari over N160 million contracts.
Also arraigned were Ibrahim Welye, a former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Barrister Sanda Lamurde, former finance Commissioner.
They trio face 17-count charges ranging from criminal conspiracy to award of contract for purchase of 25 cars at the cost of N160 million without following due process.
They allegedly awarded the contract without obtaining the certificate of ‘No Objection’ from the state procurement agency.
They all pleaded ‘not guilty’ when the charged were read to them.
Hearing in the matter was then adjourned.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has asked the wife of the former President, to explain how she made the $31m found in some accounts.
President of the NLC, Mr. Ayuba Wabba, while addressing newsmen on the sidelines of ‘NLC National Youth Conference’ in Abuja on Tuesday, said the former First Lady had a responsibility to prove to Nigerians that the money in question was legitimately earned and not through questionable means.
