EFCC arraigns CMD, lawyer for attempting to bribe operatives


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has once again stepped its campaign against corrupt practices in the country, as the anti-graft body, yesterday, dragged Dr Olufemi Omotosho, the Chief Medical Director, CMD, of the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, Ondo State and his counsel Ayodele Owoka, before a Lagos High Court presided over Justice Lateef Lawal Akapo .

The accused and his legal Counsel were arraigned on a five count charge of conspiracy to offer gratification to a public officer, destruction of evidence and giving of false information.

Counsel to Dr. Omotosho was on Thursday 27 February, 2014 apprehended in the premises of the EFCC in Ikoyi, where he was said to have allegedly tried to bribe operatives of the agency investigating a case involving malpractices going on at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, Ondo State. These malpractices were said to include contract inflation, abuse of office, stealing, embezzlement and misappropriation of funds.

Confirming the arraignment, Wilson Uwujaren, the EFCC spokesperson said: “The lawyer confessed after his arrest that he offered the operatives, N1, 200,000 which was allegedly given to him by the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. O. Omotosho, to bribe the team to soft pedal on their investigations.
