A grassroots politician and former Estako local government chairman in Edo state, Chief Suleman Afegbua has been assassinated by gunmen, suspected to be hired assassins.
DAILYPOST gathered that he was killed on Thursday morning, along the Benin-Auchi expressway.
It was also learnt that the deceased, who hailed from Okpella community, was travelling to Benin on a convoy when he was attacked at Ogbemudia farm in Uhumwonde Local Government Area of the state.
Two other persons, who were with him when the incident occurred, were also wounded by the attackers.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Edo state command, Moses Nkombe, while confirming the incident to the media said that policemen have been deployed to the area to smoke out the perpetrators.
Nkombe said: “He was in a convoy going to Benin when he was attacked. He died on the spot while two others were rushed to a hospital and they are responding to treatment.
“Our men are out now for the hoodlums. As we speak, our patrol team, SARS, anti-cultism teams have been sent to the area to comb the bushes around.”
Meanwhile, a family source, who spoke under anonymity, said that the late Afegbua would be buried according to Muslim rites.
