Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has reacted to reports circulating on social media that he called the Edo State PDP governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and told him to accept the election results and congratulate Mr Godwin Obaseki of the APC.
INEC on Thursday declared Obaseki winner of the election.
A statement on Friday by Lere Olayinka, his special assistant on Public Communications and New Media, said “This is obviously a ploy by the APC to secure credibility for the party’s disputed victory in the election, using Governor Fayose’s name.”
“One wonders why the APC elements need to lie, using Governor Fayose’s name if they are indeed sure that they won the election.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Fayose is in agreement with the position of the PDP (both at Edo State level and national level) on the election.
“He will support the PDP in Edo State and its candidate if there is enough grounds to challenge the election result at the Election Petitions Tribunal”, he added.
Meanwhile, the governor-elect, Obaseki, has described his victory as humbling and well-deserved.
Obaseki thanked the people for their support, saying that he and his party, APC worked very hard to clinch the victory.
