The Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Mr. Ebomhiana Musa today denied that the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Mr. Philip Shauibu allegedly sponsored the failed impeachment of the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Justin Okonoboh on Monday, May 22, DAILY POST can report.
In a chat with DAILY POST at the Government House in Benin-City, Musa described the allegation as a ” rumor” and that it is very “outlandish.”
The former News Editor of the Sun Newspaper noted that,” I’m not aware of the Deputy Governor sponsoring the impeachment of the Speaker of the House.
” The Speaker has officially come out to say that the House could not sit because of renovation works.
” However, this one you are telling me is news to me that there are impeachment move against the Speaker.
Musa explained that there was high expectation from members of the political class and the general public that the Edo State House of Assembly which has been on recess in the past two months would confirm the list of Commissioners presented before it on resumption on Monday, May 22.
While noting that the relationship between the Deputy Governor, Mr. Philip and the Speaker, Rt.Hon. Justin Okonoboh has been very cordial, Musa advised members of the public to stop feasting on “rumor” and “beer parlour talks” stressing that it helps no one.
When DAILY POST visited the Edo State House of Assembly Complex (Anthony Enahoro) at about 12pm, suspected thugs were seen around the premises of the complex.
An aide to the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Abiodun Abuda stated that the Speaker was in a crucial meeting as at the time of this report.
