Edo Assembly lifts suspension on ex-Deputy Speaker, Elizabeth Ativie

The Edo House of Assembly has lifted the suspension on its former Deputy Speaker, Elizabeth Ativie, more than five months after she was impeached.

The resolution was followed by a recommendation of an ad hoc committee led by the Deputy Speaker, Victor Edoror, at the resumption of plenary on Monday.

Edoror said the decision was taken following return of official items by their colleague.

Ativie, representing Uhunmwonde constituency under the All Progressives Congress, was on August 15 impeached and suspended for three months, along with the former Speaker; Dr. Justin Okonoboh, and the ex-Majority Leader, Foly Ogedengbe, for alleged misconduct.

While the suspension of Okonoboh and Ogedengbe were eatlier lifted, that of Ativie was extended by the House over failure to return official vehicles.

The vehicles include one Lexus SUV, one Prado SUV and two Hilux vans.

Adopting the committee’s recommendation to lift the ban on the suspended lawmaker, the Speaker, Mr. Kabiru Adjoto, said,

“Following the adoption of the recommendation of the committee by the House, the suspension order placed on Ativie is hereby lifted.”
