Manchester City have signed Ederson Santana de Moraes from Benfica for a British record fee for a goalkeeper.
The 23-year-old Brazilian joins Pep Guardiola’s side after two seasons in Primeira Liga.
On Thursday morning, Benfica released a statement announcing that they have reached an agreement with City to sell Ederson for €40m (34.9m).
The 23-year-old becomes the most expensive goalkeeper in world football. Before now, Juventus keeper, Gianluigi Buffon who cost £33m in 2001 held the record.
He becomes Guardiola’s second summer acquisition, following the capture of the Monaco midfielder Bernardo Silva for £43.6m.
The Spaniard signed Claudio Bravo from Barcelona for £13.75m last year. The Chilean failed to impress, which led to Guardiola rotating him and Willy Caballero in goal, as City finished third in the league and were eliminated from the Champions League and the FA Cup.
