Nigerians have reacted to the plan by the Federal Government to disburse $322 million fund repatriated from the accounts of former Head of State, late General Sani Abacha in Switzerland to Nigerians.
Recall that the National Coordinator of the Open Government Partnership (OGP), Nigeria and Special Assistant to the President on Justice Reforms, Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu disclosed this on Wednesday in a chat with journalists.
He said under MoU with Switzerland, the money would be paid directly into the accounts of the poorest Nigerians through their various accounts for two years.
However, Nigerians on social media have questioned how the government will identify poor Nigerians.
They accused the government of using this as a way to reloot the funds while urging the government to divert the funds to develop power sector, fuel and solve other challenges in the country.

@Ebuka “FG to disburse $322m Abacha loot to Nigerians. I better get my share. Who’s compiling the list?
@Optimumcode “Is there a database of all Nigeria showing what each citizen earns? This is another medium to re-loot the recovered loots.”
@Mdbellotwits, “I think d loot should b tied to a specific project. Spending it on social welfare is just another means to re-loot the loot.”
@Ekejo “How will they identify poor Nigerians? These one should be used to fund critical infrastructure development that will impact on citizens lives.”
@Udemelemo “On a second thought, why can’t this money be deployed in completing abandoned projects or fund the 2018 budget.”
@George_Nwenih “The loot would be re-looted; can they clearly define who ‘poor Nigerians’ are, &how they intend to classify &reach out to them. This is a political gimmick -pointblank! “The money should be returned to the CBN for appropriation – we are looking to fund our 2018 budget, aren’t we?
@PhillipsAyoola “This will be most ridiculous decision to be taken by the FG where there are really pressing issues such as poor health sector, crawling power sector, ailing economy among others where these funds can be channeled. Another avenue to loot the looted funds.”
@ATMspecial “If this is true, then it is MADNESS ..Why do this when the economy needs money to grow, Why do this when we still lack basic infrastructure, Why do this when there are no jobs and industries need MONEY to help. If it’s true, then it is Madness.”
