There was a serious confusion at the Ebonyi State government house Abakaliki on Monday as the governor, Chief David Umahi banned journalists and exco-members from using phones, laptops, ipads, including any other electro-magnetic device at the exco-chambers.
It was gathered that the security officials were ordered by the governor to ensure adequate security at the government house.
This resulted to stop and search of all top government officials, including journalists.
The development was announced by the governor through the senior special adviser to the governor on security, Dr Kenneth Ogbala.
He ordered policemen attached to the government house to ensure that anyone who enters into the state executive council chambers, including the governor’s office, was properly searched and stopped of entering with phones and other recording device.
“Henceforth, phones, laptops, IPADs, and other magnetic device inductions are not allowed inside the executive chamber and governor’s office. Any defaulter will be appropriately sanctioned,” he warned.
Investigation revealed that the decision by the governor followed the alleged leaking of some government vital policies and deliberations reached at state executive council meetings.
The ban was effective on Monday as all journalists that attended one of the government functions at the exco-chambers were forced to drop their working tools.
