Ebonyi NSCDC arrests two suspects for siphoning diesel meant for street lights

It was a day of reckoning for two suspects who were paraded by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, (NSCDC) for their allegedly involvement in the secret sales of government diesel to a cartel in Ebonyi state.

They were paraded before newsmen at the command headquarters in Abakaliki.

The suspects are Mr. Hyacinth Nwekwu in charge of the generator plants used in powering street lights along Ezza Road and one Titus Nwokwu, the personal guard to the Head of Service, Ebonyi State government, Mr. Chamberline Nwele.

A reports by Vanguard says the suspects had for long been engaged in shady deals as the diesels procured by the state government for the powering of the street lights would always finish before its anticipated period.

The Commandant of the Corps, Chinwe Kannu who confirmed the incident said that prompt action was taken after a tip-off.

“The suspects were fond of siphoning diesels meant for the Power station for their own personal gains.

“There were arrested on Friday 26th August 2016.

“We didn’t want to parade the suspects then till after our preliminary investigations.

“They were arrest with 5 jerry cans loaded with diesel.

“Before now we had got tips that the diesels often purchased by the state government finish below the period earmarked for them.

“They have been tampering with these products and as such they sell them to ready marketers,” he said.

The Commandant urged youths to desist from criminal acts as the command was on the mission to weed out perpetrators of crimes.

The commandant said the suspect will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
