The governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi yesterday urged the federal government to call to order his Cross River state counterpart, Ben Ayade for allegedly refusing to give way for peace talk over ongoing killings affecting both states.
Umahi made this known in Abakaliki, the state capital.
Umahi through the Acting Governor, Barr Kelechi Igwe also alleged that hoodlums from Ohene in Cross River state on daily basis have continued to kill and maim the people of Azuofia Idda in Izzi local government area of the state.
He noted that all peace efforts being made by the government and people of Ebonyi state towards resolving the persistent crisis resulting from the boundary dispute between Ebonyi/ Cross River have ended in futility as a result of the unseriousness of Ben Ayade.
“While Ebonyi State government will deploy police, army, and other security apparatus to wade off any reprisal attack that may emanate from there, the Cross River zone is left so porous that the people move at will to egress into Ebonyi State casue mayhem, decimate enviroment, kill our peole and move back to Cross River unchecked.
“The governor had reported severally and I use this opportunity to also request that NEMA should write Cross River State government and tell them of the need for them to save the nation of all money that is being spent on provision of food and building materials by cooperating with Ebonyi State government and the National Boundary Commission to resolve that problem once and for all,” he stated.
Umahi lamented that the lingering crisis have caused a lot of damages and economic loss to the state and recalled that over 40 houses have been destroyed as a result of the crisis.
