Ebonyi cannot harbour criminals, drug peddlers – Umahi

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi, Monday reiterated his commitment not to harbour criminals, miscreants and drug peddlers as witnessed in some states of the federation.

Umahi made this known while addressing the executive intelligence management course 12 of the institute for security services, lower Usman Dam Bawari, Abuja during a courtesy visit at the Government House, Abakaliki.

The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Chief Kelechi Igwe, however, called on the security architecture of the nation to rise up to the challenge of combating the increasing crimes in the country.

He said: “I must say with any amount of energy in me that the security architecture in the nation has a lot to do.

“I was in my office giving you analysis of what the director of DSS in the state has been doing here. There are a lot of issues that would have engulfed the state in terms of security wise but he managed the situation.

“This is the type of security system that we would recommend for the nation and not the inactive type that will always wait for reaction.

The governor also challenged the security chiefs in the nation to meet up with the roles of their engagement.

“Nigeria is facing a turbulent security challenges, but we must not forget the treat of Boko Haram, the issue of militancy in the south south region, MASSOB in the South east, which was headed by our dear brother Nnamdi KANU.

“This would have engulfed this nation but it was diplomatically handled to the point that the rest of the world cannot see Nigeria in a bad light.

“The Army has been too wonderful in the state. We have been having skirmishes in the border areas between Ebonyi and Cross River, Benue and many others. Any untrained and unskillful army would move in there and each day, what we shall be confronted with is a number of casualties or number of innocent people they have killed. But, the Army we have in Ebonyi State is skillful, dedicated and faithful to the roles of their engagement.

“This is not one of the states that is posted as a harbour for criminals and miscreants who migrated from other country’s that has intentions to perpetrate crimes.

“We do not have drug addicts in Ebonyi State. Those who would have gone into drug are afraid of NDLEA and they are keeping away from the state,” he stated.

Responding, the leader of the delegation, Mrs. Angela Olusayi, commended the state government for accepting to host the team.
