Ebola: Yaba LCDA procures infrared temperature screening device


In response to the outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Lagos and other parts of the country,Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State has secured an infrared temperature screening device to scan everybody coming into the council premises.

The Council Chairman, Jide Jimoh, while speaking at a one-day programme tagged: ‘Ebola: Fear Not’, handed over the machine to the Health Department. He urged the personnel to be careful in their daily routine to prevent any spread of the deadly disease.

He also said staff should not be exempted in the campaign against the spread of the Virus.

He said,“Though, we have been educating residents on how to control the spread of the disease, likewise it is important to sensitize our staff as well.

“I urge you to maintain a hygienic environmental standard in your various offices and take necessary precautionary measures to contain the deadly Ebola Virus Disease.

“We have purchased the infrared temperature screening instrument and protective equipment like gloves, gowns, boots, face-masks and many more as a measure to control infection with the virus,” he said.

He however, thanked the Primary Health Department and Environmental Department of the council for a job well done in sensitizing the public everyday on the virus.

One of the medical practitioners, Tunde Oloyede, who was on ground to lecture the gathering, admonished the LCDA staff, especially the primary health care staff, to be careful in taking care of patients, saying early diagnosis and test of Ebola virus is similar to other infections like malaria, typhoid and so on.

“Always use protective equipment; avoid hand shake. Wash your hands immediately after handshake and ensure proper fumigation of the PHCs every time,” he said.

During the programme, staff of the Council were screened with the new temperature machine to check their health status.
