The Commissioner of Health in Enugu State, Dr George Eze on Monday disclosed that the state has been totally cleared of any suspected case of Ebola Virus Disease.
Six persons, who had contact with the nurse that treated late Liberia Ebola Virus victim, Patrick Sawyer, were earlier put under surveillance.
The Federal Government had last month announced that a nurse, who was under surveillance over the Ebola Virus Disease escaped from Lagos to Enugu and made contacts with some persons in the state.
However, speaking during the opening ceremony of a 2 Week Certificate Course organised by the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu in collaboration with the West African College of Nursing held at Nondon Hotel, Enugu, Eze said the six persons have been cleared.
The commissioner, who was represented by the Director of Medical Services in the state ministry of health, Dr Ndubuisi Ejeh, stressed the need for people to keep their environments neat.
He also disclosed that there was need to continue sensitization on Ebola Virus and advised people to ensure that they washed their hands after hand shakes.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Medical Director of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu, Dr. Jojo Onwukwe averred that they had continued with the culture of organising in-house seminars and workshops, adding that the development had so far repositioned the staff towards effective service delivery.
According to him, it was no longer arguable that their staff welfare had been given unprecedented attention, “with the ongoing construction in the hospitals”.
“Since my assumption of office, we have reiterated our vision and mission statement for Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, New Heaven Enugu, not only in words, but in all action as well.
“The events that have unfolded in the past year are enough evidence of our commitment in lifting this institution to olympian height.
“Being the first Eastern Neuropsychiatric Hospital in the country long before some of these other hospital, gives it a prestigious pedigree respected all over the country.
“Indeed, it’s products are it’s pride: properly tutored, well baked and sound and in knowledge, with 12 consultants, 24 readers and more than 315 senior nurses as well as students undergoing training in the hospital”, he stated.
In his inaugural lecture, Abia State Governor, Theodore Orji, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Mba Agu Mba had disclosed that his administration had given priority to the health sector.
Orji further stated that his administration had constructed 710 Primary Health centers and commended the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital for initiating the event.
