Ebola: Ondo to sign cremation bill into law

As government continues its fight against the wide spread of Ebola virus, the Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko today said the state will soon pass its cremation bill into law.

This according to him, would enable the government to cremate dead bodies that are brought into the state without certified certificates.

Mimiko made this known at the Inauguration of the newly created Ondo Central Missionary Diocese at Ebenezer African Church in Akure, the State Capital.

The governor cautioned the people to avoid contact with anybody who dies from the Ebola virus, saying there is the possibility of contacting the virus when washing and celebrating the corpse.

While expressing optimism, Mimiko boasted that Nigeria would soon defeat the virus in the next few months, as long as it receives encouragement from Nigerians on the fight against the virus.

His words, “As a nation, we are facing challenges. We are still battling with the issue of Boko Haram and the Ebola virus came in. I am very sure that as long as we do what we are suppose to do, we will overcome this virus. We already known some scientific facts about Ebola and we are ready to fight this virus.

“One thing is that we must encourage -cleaniless . Wash our hands with soup frequently. If you can afford a sanitizer, please get one. Avoid unnecessary body contacts. Even in church, always bear in mind that this will not last long. Avoid bush meat so that you will live long to eat more of bush meats.

“If a person who dies of Ebola virus is your relations, avoid going close please because that is even more dangerous.

“Any dead body that does not have a certified Certificate will soon be cremated because it will soon be passed into law our cremation law”

The Primate of the African Church Nigeria and Overseas, His Eminencezn the Most Rev’d Emmanuel Josiah Udofia, while speaking with reporters said they believe that God was their protector and that none of their members would contact the virus but they must try to take some precaution.

While urging members of his congregation to avoid body contact, Udofia said they do not make use of one cup when serving their member Holy Communion wine and always wash them immediately after the service.

The Primate said the significance of the inauguration was to spread the gospel.
