As part of proactive measures to prevent a possible outbreak of Ebola virus in Ondo State, the State Ministry of Education has announced the immediate cancellation of all Summer School Lessons currently going-on in different parts of the state.
According to a statement by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Steve Awosika, Parents, School Principals, Head Teachers, Proprietors of Private Schools are enjoined to strictly comply with this directive.
Awosika also announced a new resumption date for the 2014/2015 Academic Session in all Primary and Secondary schools in the state in compliance with the directive of the Federal Ministry of Education.
He said all pupils and students of public and private primary as well as secondary schools are to resume for the new academic session on Monday, 13th October, 2014.
Meanwhile, the state government has also advised traditional rulers and religious leaders in the state to for now suspend any large gathering of people.
The state Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko gave the advice during a sensitization meeting with royal fathers and religious leaders across the state held at the Cocoa Hall of the Governor’s office in Akure, on Thursday.
Addressing the traditional rulers and religious leaders, the governor who was represented by his Chief Of Staff, Dr Kola Ademujimi, said the royal fathers and clerics must ensure their followers and wards desist from eating bush meat and any meat without a traceable source to avoid the spread of the disease to the state.
The Governor however urged the people to always maintain personal hygiene including washing of hands with soap regularly as part of preventive measures.
