The Lagos State government has appealed to the members of the Nigerian Medical Association who are currently on strike to resume work and help the government contain the spread of the deadly Ebola virus disease which has affected at least seven persons in the state.
The Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr. Jide Idris, who made this appeal at a press conference in Lagos on Wednesday, also called for volunteers, explaining that more hands were needed to take care of infected patients and to track those who had contact with victims.
He assured that the government was ready to meet any demand of the health volunteers, as their safety would be secured.
The Ebola Virus started spreading in Lagos after a Liberian, Patrick Sawyer, was diagnosed with the virus last week before he died on July 25. Just yesterday, another death of a nurse who treated the Liberian was recorded.
DailyPost recalls that the Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, disclosed yesterday that five other persons had also been diagnosed of the virus and that the government was doing its best to contain the spread of the disease that has killed large number persons in Liberia.
