Health Minister, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, Tuesday night, confirmed the death of a female consultant physician infected with the Ebola Virus Disease. The deceased, who worked at the First Consultant Hospital, Lagos, led medical experts involved in the treatment of Liberia’s late Patrick Sawyer.
The minister, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Dan Nwomeh, said “With this unfortunate development, the total number of Ebola Virus related deaths in Nigeria now stands at five.
“The other two patients currently under treatment in the isolation wards are stable and are being taken care of”, he added.
Although the late patient was not named, the identity is widely believed to be Dr Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, as she had been undergoing care at the EVD Isolation Centre in Lagos, few days after her contact with Sawyer.
