Ebola: Ebonyi state government denies rumor of patient in FETHA

The Ebonyi State government has yesterday debunked reports that an Ebola patient was receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, FETHA.

The said report got many residents of the state into panic and confusion, as they all embarked on frantic calls to friends and relations to confirm the news. Relatively, calls were also made by concerned individuals to relevant authorities in order to confirm the authenticity of the story.

Debunking the report however, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sunday Nwangele, in his statement described the report as false; stressing that logistics had been put in place in order to keep the disease in check.

He said the patient whose ailment was rumoured to be Ebola was untrue as he was currently being treated for peptic ulcer and not Ebola.

“The case of Ebola in Ebonyi as being peddled is a false alarm. It’s rather a case of Peptic Ulcer. I want to call on everybody in the State and Nigeria to disregard the alarm. There is no Ebola Virus Disease in Ebonyi State, Nigeria.

“Meanwhile, government of Ebonyi State, through the State Ministry of Health, the Rapid Respond Team and Treatment Committee are by His Grace ready to handle issues of Ebola Virus Disease in Ebonyi State, while enlightening the entire public to comply with universal precautions as already established,” The Commissioner said.
