Easter: Makarfi urges Nigerians to eschew bitterness, promote unity

Former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has appealed to all Nigerians to eschew bitterness and recommit themselves to noble ideals of unity in diversity.

This was as he pointed out that those wonderful days, where the ideal of Nigeria’s unity was not only desirable but possible is still doable if the spirit of Easter is imbibed.

In an Easter goodwill message signed by his spokesman, Alhaji Mukhtar Zubairu Sirajo, Senator Makarfi conveyed his warm felicitations and greetings to the Nigerian Christian community, and indeed all Nigerians on the auspicious occasion of the Easter celebrations in memory of the legendary spirit of sacrifice and selflessness espoused and exhibited by Jesus Christ.

He held that it is imperative that the period is used by all for meditation and sober reflections on the life and times of Jesus Christ and his sacrifices, with a view to imbibing the legacies of Jesus Christ.

The former Kaduna governor noted that the legacies of Jesus Christ include humility, forgiveness, tolerance, good neighbourliness, respect and empathy for others feelings as well as love for one another.

He equally expressed firm belief that the application of these virtues taught and lived by Jesus Christ is direly needed now more than at any time in the history of Nigeria as citizens grapple with the challenges of poverty, divisiveness and mutual distrust and suspicion, which have crept into the psyche of the country from only-God-knows-where.
