The Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Tukur Buratai has stated that Boko Haram terrorists, having been defeated on the field, have now migrated to the cyber space and the internet.
The Army Chief spoke on Tuesday against the backdrop of an online publication generating controversies surrounding what has now been referred to as Dubai properties.
While noting that there is no need for his reaction to the story since the Federal Government has already reacted, Buratai asserted that the army will trail the terrorists who have migrated to the internet and defeat them there.
DAILY POST reports that the COAS stated this while briefing journalists on this year’s Army Day celebration. He also blamed the “cyber space terrorists” for stories that recent military hardware procured for the war against insurgents were refurbished, assuring that cyber warriors will be put in place to defeat the internet terrorists as they were conquered on the battleground.
Burutai used the occasion to unveil the theme of this year’s National Army Day Celebration, NADCEL, “Optimizing the capability of the Nigerian Army to meet contemporary security challenges.”
Buratai further said, “The relocation of the military command and control centre to the epicentre of the operations theatre for effective prosecution of the ongoing fight against insurgency as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari has been fully complied with. This has provided the Military Command with more theatre visibility, effective command and control, resulting in continual decimation of the remaining insurgents. The NA working in concert with other Services and agencies has firmly reasserted its control over our territory where the insurgents had in the past exercised freedom of action.
“Let me reiterate that the Nigerian Army under my leadership will continue to respect all aspects of human rights as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as well as other international principles and guidelines on the subject,” the COAS declared.
