Two traditional rulers in Osun State were yesterday summoned by the Department of State Security, DSS, to clear the air on their involvement in cases of political violence in the State.
According to a Punch report, the DSS Director in the State, Mr. Andrew Iorkya disclosed the development.
According to Iorkya, the agency has gone into partnership with other security outfits to ensure that the peace currently being enjoyed in the State is not disrupted during the electioneering period.
“We have invited two baales ,village heads, to explain their alleged roles in promoting crisis in Ikirun axis. We are not saying they are guilty but we want them to explain their roles.
“There will be no sacred cow. We don’t want crisis in Osun State and anybody who wants to cause trouble will be dealt with according to the provisions of the law,” Iyokya said.
He further stated that the agency is currently investigating the allegation of violence leveled against the East Senatorial District candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Mr Francis Fadahunsi, in the State.
Iyokya further noted that politicians want security agents to protect their campaign posters and bill-boards day and night; this, he said was not possible as they have other engagements.
He debunked the insinuations by the All Progressive Congress, APC, that the DSS has turned deaf ears to the allegation brought against Fadahunsi.
“We are investigating the entire allegation raised concerning violence in Ilase and other areas. We need to investigate every allegation levelled against anybody. We cannot just believe everything we are told but ours is to investigate and take action and we have been doing that,
“We are neutral; our men cannot take side with any political party or politician because we are not partisan. We are to ensure that the state is safe for everyone,” he said.
