Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who is said to have been out of Abuja for some time now, yesterday returned to meet the restoration of his security detail that has been withdrawn from him some five months ago by the Department of State Services, DSS.
Confirming the development to newsmen yesterday evening, Tambuwal’s spokesman, Imam Imam, noted that only the DSS had restored its operatives earlier withdrawn from the Speaker.
Security personnel attached to the Speaker were withdrawn on October 30 following his defection to the All Progressives Congress, APC. Prior to yesterday, the security arm of the National Assembly had served as his detail during the absence of the official security detail.
Aside the DSS, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Suleiman Abba, ordered the immediate withdrawal and redeployment of all security aides attached to Tambuwal at the time. The order was contained in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu.
Abba had in the statement said: “In view of the recent defection by the Rt. Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal to the APC, and having regard to the clear provision of Section 68(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has redeployed its personnel attached to his office.”
