DSS releases Ibadan-based presenter, Oriyomi Hamzat after 15 days in detention

A popular Ibadan-based broadcaster, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat has been released from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), where he was detained for about fifteen days.

DAILY POST gathered that Hamzat, who owns Agidigbo radio station in Ibadan, was detained at the DSS office in Ibadan on August 1.

He was later transferred to Abuja for further interrogation.

General Manager of Agidigbo radio station, Mr. Ismail Idowu while narrating how Hamzat was whisked away, said the DSS officers visited the radio station on July 31, demanding to see Hamzat.

The manager, along with three others who are interns at the broadcast office, were arrested, while broadcast equipment at the office were taken by the officers afterwards.

Idowu explained that the security operatives did not disclose why he was arrested to anyone.

“We’ve been running our programmes and exposing the atrocities committed by the state government until the time he was arrested,” he said.

Hamzat’s wife, Motunrayo Hamzat, who confirmed the release of her husband, noted that her husband had gone into hiding after his release.

She said, “He has been released since Thursday. But currently, he is not around.”
