The leadership of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUJ, has called on the Federal Government to investigate the alleged invasion and brutalization of teachers of the Federal Government Girls College, Calabar, Cross Rivers State, by officials of the Department of State Services, DSS.

Recall that a Civic Education teacher of the school, Owai Owai, had reportedly reprimanded 10 senior pupils for ordering some junior school pupils to clean their (senior) classrooms.

One of the senior pupils was said to have called his mum, a DSS official, identified as Mrs. Asuquo, who allegedly invited her colleagues to beat Owai and other teachers.

While condemning the attack on teachers, the union insisted that anyone found culpable should be prosecuted.

President of the NUT, Michael Alogba-Olukoya, made the call yesterday, describing the alleged action of the DSS as barbaric, adding that invading a school and beating up teachers had no place in modern society.

He added that the parents of the pupils should have adopted a civilised manner of resolving the issue.

He said, “We condemn the dastardly act of the Department of State Services.

“We want the Federal Government to investigate the matter and pursue it to a logical conclusion.

“Storming the school and brutalising teachers should be condemned. It is highly unethical.

“We demand that the affected officers be made to face the music.”
