DSP race: Northern senators back Boroffice Ajayi to succeed Ekweremadu

Senator representing Ondo North Senatorial district, Boroffice Ajayi, might grab the the office of Deputy Senate President in the 9th National Assembly as elected Senators on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the northern part of the country have aligned with his aspiration.

The APC has officially zoned the position of Senate President to the North East geo-political zone, but was yet to make categorical statement on the zoning of other leadership positions for both chambers of the National Assembly.

It was learnt that influential Senators, including former governors, from NorthWest, NorthEast and NorthCentral zones have declared support for the third term lawmaker who is the Senate Committee Chairman on Science and Technology.

A ranking senator and former governor,who spoke to DAILY POST at the ongoing induction course of new and old elected lawmakers in Abuja confirmed, “he has actually approached us and we gave him our words. I think Senator Boroffice understands the dynamics of legislative activities: he has been loyalty to the party and Mr President too.”

He added, “His campaign has been extensive and quiet. Very rewarding. Most of us in the North are with Boroffice.

“We did parliamentary support group together so we can trust him to protect the interest and the party at the leadership level.”

“The North is on lockdown for him. He is one of us and as one of the contenders for the position of Deputy Senate President, not been working hard.”

Boroffice, a professor of Human Genetics was relying heavily on his relationship with some of the returnees to take over Ike Ekweremadu’s job in June this year.

Other contenders are Senators Ibukunle Amosun, Francis Alimikhena, a second timer, Ovie OmoAgege, who is currently battling in the court over legitimacy of his candidature, Oluremi Tinubu, wife of the APC National leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator-elect, Orji Uzor Kalu.
